That's what midday's "daylight" looks like in the "real" North. Apologies, but Berlin is a joke! ;)
And just for the record, the twilight around 2 a.m. - meaning aaaall the lights coming from the capital city, situated around 10 km away from our favourite lake/see hotel - were just as bright. Maybe even a little bit brighter...
Yep, no northern lights in Espoo, Helsinki, Finnland, folks!
Winter has not only come, it's never left!
Here's my personal, highly subjective getting-to-know-story:
1. In the beginning of August it was raining and drizzling aaaaaaaall day long :(. Those notoriously grey 17° degrees didn't clear up until shortly before sundown. So I didn't poke out my nose until after noon. Aaah, these feather blankets :))) Yes, that's right, the same one in the "summer" like the one over me just right now. So I just had an hour or so to go around the lake for a stroll. The Baltic Sea, sorry. Too much icy water around here ;)
Good, it was marvelous, that sky in that moment, but my only jacket (no coat, aaaghrr) and pullover still didn't let me gaze for too long ;)
2. Still hopefull, second "Anlauf", mid October - brrrrrrrrr, freeeeezing! It was +6° officially, but I had, personally, not felt sooo teeth-chattering-cold for a very very long time. I couldn't even wait for the traffic lights standing still! Needed to jump around. Had too move constantly. And used my woollen scarf for a hat.
After my few hours walk around grey, grey and again grey, I spent probably more time in shops and toilets that in Helsinki's center itself:p
3. And now my third approach - right after New Year. It's 2 p.m. and already dawning.
Here & Now I'm officially admitting - whether I make it to the shop for those incredibly awesome british teas "Clipper" or not - I give up!
And even more officially - next time, let me just peacefully check in the cosy pool and sauna up there under the roof top - like that big label infront of the hotel - "welcome to the log out zone" - suggests. And don't bother me anymore with that "pearl of the north". Point.
